By the time planning had begun for the 2009 Jubilee, an economic recession was in full swing. Life did indeed seem to be giving us lemons and it has become increasingly difficult to pay for the finer things in life. We Red Hatters did not let that stop us from celebrating our Jubilee with panache. We had a fabulous time on a skinny budget, the shabby chic way…. brought all our glitz and bling and toasted the good life with lemonade!
It was a fun packed week-end in the North Georgia Mountains at Unicoi State Park in Helen, GA, away from the hustle and bustle, the summer heat and that “Recession Depression” we were trying our best to ignore. We figured, “If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade” and after all we were “Headin’ for Better Times” and “Happy Days are Here Again”. Friday night there was a “When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain” Low Country Boil and Live Band. At the Saturday morning Pajama Breakfast we said, “Let’s Have Another Cup of Coffee”, and then sang, “Forget All Your Troubles, Come On Get Happy” as we headed into the little Alpine village of Helen to shop and play. A few brave ladies went tubing down the Chattahoochee River. We had an afternoon Tea and an “Ain’t Misbehavin’” Roaring 20’s Cocktail Party with a DJ and dancing. On Sunday morning we said, “There‘s a New Day Comin‘” at the Farewell Breakfast.
Our thanks and applause to Planning Chairs: Helen Naismith, Beth Schilling, and Marsha Elliott. A special hug to Beth's hubby Al, who made the lemonade stand which was such a big hit!
